The Anthurium Thai Hybrid 'Variegata' is a standout within the world of leaf anthuriums. Developed in Thailand, this hybrid immediately stands out for its variegated leaf patterns with varying drawings in white, cream and green. It is a spectacular plant for those who love rare variegation and a modern, graphic look.

Origin

This hybrid was developed in Thailand from a cross of several large-leaved Anthurium-species, presumably including A. crystallinum, A. magnificum or A. forgetii. Intensive selection has created a form with stable variegation expressed differently in almost every leaf. The plant has been specially bred for ornamental value and more compact growth, making it suitable for both enthusiasts and collectors.

Characteristics

The leaves are heart-shaped to oval and firm in texture, with a slightly velvety leaf surface. The leaf color is dark green, often with a silvery sheen on the veins. What makes this plant really special is its variegated markings: each leaf shows a unique pattern of white or cream spots, stripes or crescents. Sometimes whole leaf halves are white or speckled. The variegation is genetic (and therefore permanent), but is influenced by light, temperature and nutrition. Older plants usually develop larger and more contrasting leaves.

Care

Light

Place in bright, indirect light. Variegata-shapes need slightly more light than all-green plants to maintain their variegated patterns. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.

Temperature

A temperature between 18°C and 26°C is ideal. The plant does not tolerate cold fall or drafts.

Substrate

Use an aerated, well-draining mixture. A mix of fine bark, coconut chips, perlite and a little leaf compost works well. Roots like oxygen and a loose structure.

Humidity

At least 60%, preferably higher. If the air is too dry, white parts of the leaves can develop brown edges. A humidifier or greenhouse setup is recommended.

Nutrition

During the growing season, give a light dose of aroid fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks. Use a mild formulation to avoid burning the variegated parts.

Watering

Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Preferably give demineralized water. Overwatering is the biggest pitfall; the white parts of the leaves are more susceptible to damage.

Flowering

The inflorescence is modest: a small spike of flowers with a bract in shades of green. Flowering is secondary to the striking foliage in this hybrid.

Our perfect chew toy for a relentless chewer!
Size: 2 Count (Pack of 1), Style: Pack of 2
We have looked high and low for a ball that our Australian Shepherd couldn't destroy. Read on to find out why we are sticking with this one. We've used other Chuckit! products in the past to mixed degrees of success. We absolutely love the ring fetch toy, though the dog can destroy those rings in a couple days. We tried other "nearly indestructible" balls only to have to throw them away within a couple days because our dog had destroyed them and left small pieces around the house for the baby to find. We have been COMPLETELY satisfied by these balls. They fit with the Chuckit! stick, which is a great bonus, but the most important thing is the dog hasn't been able to get pieces torn out of them. His orange one is his "indoor toy" and he's been going to town on it for weeks without any indication of wear. We periodically inspect it and are always floored to see that it's generally in the same condition as when we gave it to him. The orange color did fade a little when he left it outside for a few days in the sun, but considering how well it works otherwise, this didn't concern us at all. The "whistling" aspect of this ball is... well, an interesting gimmick but I wouldn't buy it if that's what you're interested in. Sometimes it makes noise in flight, other times it doesn't. We don't care. He chews it until he's tired of it (which is usually hours) and it squeaks and squorks on his teeth which keeps him happy as a clam. We honestly didn't think we'd find a ball that could keep up with his chewing, but this one has been phenomenal. We cannot recommend it enough!

So Far So Good
I adopted a young adult dog less than 2 weeks ago. She had spent over 12 hours a day in a crate and has excessive energy and anxiety built up. She is a strong chewer. So far, out of 6 toys, this is the only one still in one piece. It appears sturdy and extra bouncy. So much better than regular tennis balls.

My dogs favorite!
My dogs love these! They will play all day if you'd let them, these balls are their favorites. I use the chuck-it handle and they get tons of exercise in the big yard!

The Dog LOVES IT!
I bought this for my ex-wife's Pitbull. He is an aggressive chewer and usually destroys any toy I buy him. But not this one! The ball is small enough and pliable that it gives when he chomps on it. He loves this ball and seems to be his favorite toy. Thank you for making a product that he likes and can't destroy!

My Golden Retriever’s favorite
We’ve owned lots of toys and balls. This specific version (in blue) has been her absolute favorite. She’s about 72lbs and chews on this thing regularly with no visible damage. We actually own about 6 of them because they have a tendency to go missing underneath furniture and in the yard. We have two of the orange colored ones but she doesn’t like those nearly as much which I assume is because the blue is easier to see in the grass. Other than that…They bounce really well and also whistle a little when you throw them hard enough. I hope they never stop making these.
