This Viberg Service Boot in a Black Teacore Chromexcel (CXL), built on their built on their rounded-toe 1035 last for a rugged pair that sits nicely in the not-so-dressy category. That said, this Black CXL pair can easily be a tweener to dress up in, if so desired. This Black CXL leather from Horween comes in their Teacore variation, allowing the brown undertones to peak through as it gets roughed, scuffed, and worn. This pair comes with Antique Brass Eyelets for a slight tonal yet accented look, along with the Natural edge finishing.

The Service Boot is based off their original model, first produced in 1931, and ultimately became a standard pattern and style for many countries during WWII as their standard issue military boot.

Sizing: We recommend taking one size down from your Brannock, or in line with your other Service Boots in 2030 or 1035 last. For example, if you take only 0.5 down from Brannock in your other Viberg Service Boots (2030, 1035, etc.) and are well-fitting, then you could take the same size in these.

Interesting book, dull period
Format: Paperback
As a Marxist historian, Hobsbawm sees the world at this time, as well as the modern world, as a playground for the forces of capitalism. He apologizes for taking a eurocentric approach to world history, while acknowledging that Europe largely determined the course of world events during this period. In spite of the title, there actually isn't much discussion of colonial empires; Hobsbawm seems more interested in how the Age of Empire affected the rulers more than the ruled. His Marxist sympathies are in evidence and at times make his conclusions a bit predictable, but some of his cultural critiques are quite brilliant. The chapter on the dilemmas posed by modern science is exceptional. Reading a book like this seems to me much more interesting than actually living in this period would have been.
