Wearing History #R161- Early 1940s Dress with Three Sleeve Options.

This is an E-Pattern Download.  This may be printed at home on your home printer and also includes A0 wide format to send away to a copy shop like Pattern Printing Co.

**Please note, this pattern is only for the dress.  The slip, visible under the dress at right, would not be included in sewing patterns of this era.  A separate slip pattern will be needed if making it of sheer material. **

Sizing

At this time, single size only in Bust 36", Waist 30", Hip 39"

Multi-sizes are possible in future, depending on popularity and demand, however as things have slowed significantly in the past few years, for now I'm bringing a few beautiful things to light that can be enjoyed and made in the original period sizing.  I hope you enjoy the rarities that are coming to light!  If a multi-size is done in future it will be a new product (not included).

Description

A beautiful dress from the early 1940s with clever detailing.  The patten features shirring, lapped seams, and bias underfacings. The skirt falls gracefully in an A-line shape.  The sleeves are puffed and can be basic short sleeves, a sleeve with shirring and buttoned detail, or a long sleeve.  This one is full of unique vintage construction detailing!

**Please note, this pattern is only for the dress.  The slip, visible under the dress at right, would not be included in sewing patterns of this era.  A separate slip pattern will be needed if making it of sheer material. **

Skill Suggested

I suggest Intermediate to Advanced skill.  This dress is full of unique vintage detailing like lapped seams, shirring, and bias under-facing.  Vintage period instructions can be quite vague, so you may wish to have a sewing book handy.  Tutorials for these types of techniques can be found in my index of sewing tutorials here. No tutorials specific to this pattern are available at this time, but the visuals from the other tutorials can help you visualize and adapt construction methods.

--HOW TO PRINT AND USE THIS E-PATTERN--

YOU WILL NEED ADOBE READER, A FREE PDF READER PROGRAM, IN ORDER TO OPEN AND PRINT THIS PATTERN.

This pattern is formatted for USA Letter Size and A4 sized paper. You will need to print this pattern to 100% scale. Open the "READ-ME-FIRST" File for instructions on printing and piecing your pattern.  It also includes an A0 copy shop file which can be sent away for printing.

The print-at-home pattern is tiled into letter sized paper. This pattern file is formatted to fit on both US Letter and A4 sizes of paper, and there will be varying thicknesses of white border, which will be cut off, according to pattern instructions.

You will print these documents on your home printer, cut, and tape them together, to form a larger pattern layout. Then you cut and use your pattern just as you would a normal home sewing pattern.

About Wearing History Resto-Vival Patterns

Resto-Vival Patterns are original historic patterns that have been restored and revived. Original patterns are usually available only in single sizes, precut from tissue paper and totally unprinted, with details like grainlines and darts indicated only by small perforations. Resto-Vival patterns are printed on sturdy bond paper instead of tissue and clearly marked with drawn and labeled markings. These markings aid the modern sewer in understanding the markings of the original pattern and the construction of the garment. Resto-Vival patterns follow the period shapes of the original patterns, maintaining the historical accuracy of the completed garment. Original period instructions are included. These instructions are text only (unless otherwise noted) and fairly minimal, especially compared to instructions for modern patterns. At least an intermediate knowledge of dressmaking and a good familiarity with pattern construction is suggested. You may choose to have a modern or period sewing book handy to help with basic construction methods that the pattern instructions do not cover in detail. Also, fitting a muslin mockup is strongly recommended, as all garments were meant to be worn over period foundation garments or corsetry.

No sunburns here!
Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
I love that this is a two pack. I keep one at the house near our entry way and the other goes out with us. Easy to apply, does not streak or leave white residue. Kept my son protected through humidity and heat in Cabo! I would def buy again.

Gentle, no-tears formula with great sun protection
Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
I’ve tried tons of mineral and chemical face sunscreens. Most all burn my facial skin, especially my eyelids—and make my eyes sting, too. This one, however, lives up to its “tear free” label claim beautifully. No stinging or burning whatsoever. I can wear it for the entire day with no problems. It absorbs very well into a matte finish and does not leave a cast. Feels moisturizing but not sticky on the skin. It’s creamy, but not so thick that it’s difficult to spread. And the price is a fraction of the price of many other sunscreens. I love everything about it!
